Diego Demonstrates Gold Potential
Val-d’Or, Quebec, July 15th, 2010 – Cartier Resources Inc. (TSX-V: ECR) (”Cartier”) is pleased to announce that the previous field and data review have confirmed the Diego property’s gold potential. As well, ten (10) new claims were added to the land holdings in order to cover a historic gold showing that returned 10.4 g/t Au from a surface grab sample. The property is located 40 kilometers south-west of the town of Chapais and now consists of 77 map staked cells for a total area of 4,298 hectares.
The property covers a prospective regional deformation zone that straddles the contact between volcanics and sediments. On the property the gold-bearing structure is confirmed with previous drill intersections featuring gold mineralization over widths up to 160 meters. Numerous altered and mineralized (gold-rich) felsic intrusives are hosted at the volcanic-sediment contact within the deformation zone. The setting is reminiscent of the Malartic Mining Camp.
All drill hole information has been integrated into a digital database. This includes geological information as well as 4,911 assay results for gold from 104 drill holes (15,348.77 meters) completed on the property or in proximity to it. Historic drilling was conducted by five separate companies from 1967 to 1996. The work produced set of sections and level plans as well as longitudinal sections that show numerous target areas. Cartier has completed a review of previous data and completed a first field reconnaissance. Old diamond drill hole casings and highly altered and mineralized felsic intrusives were located and sampled.
“Our initial objective on Diego has been to confirm the potential for gold mineralization” commented Philippe Cloutier, President and CEO of Cartier, “our recent work has rapidly reached this objective and has identified several target areas that have outlined new diamond drilling targets.”
The lay of the ground of the Diego property allows Cartier the opportunity to pursue on a year-round basis additional trenching and drilling. Cartier has multiple options to fund the exploration of this property through financing or partnership and will be providing updates to its shareholders regarding the advancement of this project.
Quality Assurance/Quality Control
Cartier has implemented and adheres to a strict Quality Assurance/Quality Control program which includes mineralized standards and blanks for each batch of samples. Analyses are either performed by Techni-lab S.G.B. Abitibi inc. in Sainte-Germaine, Quebec, or by ALS-Chemex in Val-d’Or, Quebec, both accredited laboratories.
The Diego exploration and quality control programs are supervised by Philippe Berthelot P.Geo., vice-president exploration, a qualified person as defined by National Instrument 43-101. Mr. Berthelot is also responsible for the scientific and technical information in this news release.
